The Ticino Val Grande Verbano Biosphere Reserve encompasses a territory of over 332,000 hectares, between Lombardy and Piedmont; it extends as far as the Swiss border, including the Ticino river valley, the entire area of Lake Maggiore, the lakeside municipalities, and the territory belonging to the Val Grande National Park and the Campo dei Fiori Regional Park.
The Reserve was officially designated in 2018, as an extension of the Ticino Valley Reserve recognised in 2002.
